Isolated Getaway

As South Africans we are coming to terms with an unprecedented global health scare in COVID-19 (Corona virus). Whilst our healthy climate and relatively low rural population density usually confers some protection it is doubtful that any region will escape unscathed.

To protect your health and the health of your family and friends and our housekeeping staff we would like to share some of the new protocols that we have instituted until the situation has stabilised:

> Self-catering only. Housekeeping will no longer be offered as an option.
> No handshaking to greet guests on arrival. A warm smile will have to suffice from a meter away.
> Currently the housekeeper will greet you wearing protective clothing.
> Your key will be soaked in disinfectant and not just wiped clean with disinfectant.
> Wash your hands with the soap provided for at least 20 seconds as this is more effective than hand sanitisers which we will also provide whilst we can obtain them. > We currently have another batch of 100 (75% alcohol) on the way with 300 on back order as the factory has run out and is struggling to obtain the ingredients.
> On departure please ensure that all the doors and windows are secure, that everyone has their belongings in particular their cell phone chargers, leave the key in the disinfectant bowl in the foyer and pull the front door closed with the latch on to ensure automatic locking. Check please.
> We are blocking off days so that no guests will be departing and arriving on the same day. A time period of at least 15 hours or longer before staff go in to clean will be maintained.
> Whilst we routinely maintain a high standard of hygiene, particular attention will be paid to disinfecting frequently used surfaces like door knobs, light switches, kettles, ovens, the TV remote, taps, toilet seats and handles, etc.

In this emotional time, you can be assured that we are guided by WHO guidelines and consistently act on fact-based, circumstance-driven decision making. As scientists learn more about covid19 our precautionary measures may be adapted.

Peace of mind

We fully understand the hesitation many people may feel at the moment when deciding whether to book a getaway or not or cancel their much needed weekend escape or family celebration.

South Africa has thankfully learnt from other countries and partially locked down the country to slow the spread of this disease so that hospitals do not become overburdened. Whilst 80% of people contracting covid19 will have mild or no symptoms, the uncertainty remains as to whether some areas may in future become hotspots requiring a total lockdown.

As such we have amended our cancellation policy till end December 2020 to offer you the option of changing your getaway to later in the year or to next year at no additional cost should this become necessary.

Foaling Season from August to mid-November

One of the few places in the world where guests may have the opportunity to see a foaling!

There are no guarantees, but many of our guests have been fortunate to witness a mare give birth. Mares tend to foal between midnight and 5am. Guests are welcome to leave a mobile number for a wakeup call. Have your jacket & boots ready as it can happen within 10 minutes!

Please whisper so as not to distract the mare. The foaling units are conveniently situated adjacent to Barry House.
