We cannot however guarantee how they will react to another pet on their turf. A city dog may also get kicked by a horse should it go sniffing around a horse paddock or startle a horse leading to possible injury to the horse. What Our Guests Are Saying

Perfect house for a lovely weekend away
“Just left Barry House and want to go back! Had such a wonderful weekend here with 10 friends and 3 little kiddies. The house is huge so we all had our own space and it is equipped with anything you may need. Every care was taken by the owners (jugs of water next to the bed, dining room set for dinner, wood in all the fireplaces, etc). Very close to the best wineries and great to braai on the porch, looking at the view of mountains and grazing horses. Highly recommend it for families or a group of friends.”Nichola - Cape Town
‘n Plek waarheen jy beslis sal teruggaan

What an amazing find!
“This place is one of a kind, it is the old family home and that is exactly the feel you get when staying there…it’s not just another holiday rental but it has charm and a fantastic atmosphere. There is plenty of space for larger groups, we were only six people but you could easily sleep 12 in the house. There is a large fully equipped kitchen and the entertainment room (with fireplace) is also a great place for after dinner drinks. It was awesome to see the horses playing in the morning, and all the other ‘wild life’ (birds, visiting dogs and cats).”Ritzema Party - Somerset West
Frequently Asked Questions
We would like to know more about the housekeeping option?
Should you require housekeeping for a totally relaxing stay please let us know at least 3 days before arrival. The housekeeper will come in twice daily at about 8:45am and again at about 3:30pm to service the bedrooms, bathrooms, living areas and the kitchen. Should you require more firewood during your stay she will arrange that for you. The housekeeper can be paid directly. We recommend about R130 per day as it is a large house, however you are welcome to pay her more should you be happy with the level of service provided.
Kindly note that we live in a low rainfall area. Towels, bathsheets and linen will only be refreshed during short stays by special request to the housekeeper.

Can I bring my dog?
NO DOGS OR CATS ALLOWED PLEASE!

Stella’s Kennels, in Vinkrivier on the Worcester side of Robertson, takes in small breed dogs and cats.
Bonnievale Kennels on the other side of Bonnievale, in Gelukshoop where they breed labbies and retrievers. Tertius and Annelise Carstens take all dogs provided they are human friendly. Beds and food provided. Cell: +27(0)82 901 4044.
One of our guests with large dogs kindly reviewed the Bonnievale Kennels, “The dogs seem to enjoy the kennels and I feel happy to recommend it. It was a very clean and calm dog environment.” Wendy
Can we ride horses on the farm?
No, we breed thoroughbred racehorse athletes for their speed, not tame ponies. The Robertson Riding School is only four farms away and you can book outrides through the vineyards and along the banks of the Breede River or wine tasting carriage rides with them. Bookings can be made via email email@example.com or by phone call to +27(0)82 402 7088 or +27(0)72 291 7631.
We are a group with several age groups and not everyone enjoys wine. Can you recommend activities that everyone will enjoy?
We can highly recommend doing a 50 minute barge trip up and down a stretch of the Breede River. Viljoensdrift River Cruises are about another 6km further down our road. Costs R60 per adult including an informal wine tasting. They also have a deli where one can select your own picnic to take on board. Over weekends they often have live music on the deck. A lovely outing that all ages will enjoy. Bookings can be made via their website: https://www.viljoensdrift.co.za/river
Our neighbours Bon Courage make some of the best wine in the world. So enjoy a wine tasting and pop into their Café Maude afterwards for a late breakfast or light lunch. They have a jungle gym and play area to keep the children entertained. Our neighbours on the other side are Springfield wine estate – no food but delicious wine and well worth tasting. They have a boat that can be taken out for a paddle on the dam. Bird Paradise has exotic birds and monkeys, lama’s, crocodiles, porcupines, etc and a play area that the kids will enjoy. They also do light meals – toasted sandwiches and teas.
Brandy lovers will enjoy Klipdrift Brandy Distillery – one can do a tour of the distillery and a brandy tasting as well. They have a small menu – do light gourmet burgers and nachos for lunch.
Should you have beer drinkers in your party a visit to the Saggy Stone Pub & Restaurant in the middle of nowhere is well worth the trip and their food is good and very cheap. It really is a hidden gem, if a bit of a drive unless you do that on your way back to Cape Town. They are only open Friday to Monday. Bookings are via their website: http://www.saggystone.co.za/
For further ideas and contact details including beekeeping with Farmer Redbeard, tractor rides, skydiving and Marbin Olive Estate see our activities page.
What languages do you speak?
We speak English and Afrikaans with an understanding of Dutch and a little bit of French if spoken slowly.
Can we buy groceries in Robertson?
Yes, both the PNP in Church Street and the Robertson SuperSpar in Voortrekker Road (the R60 ring road that bypasses Robertson) are excellent and stay open until 8pm. Otherwise see our activities page for nearby restaurants.
Can we order food to be delivered to Barry House on Riverton?
Yes, Debonairs in Robertson will deliver pizzas to Barry House on Riverton. Their menu is in the guest guide on the entry table in the foyer. Phone +27(0)23 626 6482 or order online https://order.debonairspizza.co.za/menu/1924/view/Debonairs-Pizza-Robertson.
Can you recommend a caterer to make a meal or birthday cake for a special occasion?
For a small party you can try the following options:
Speak to Lea Ward, the owner of Bourbon Street restaurant, who will cater for small parties but you need to fetch the prepared food from the restaurant and take back the plates and bowls the next day. (They are situated in Voortrekker Road. As you enter Robertson you will pass the Four Cousins restaurant, police station, Shell garage, Spar, KFC, antique shop and before the stop street Bourbon street is on your left. Parking is behind the restaurant.
Delicious food like oxtail or chicken floretine, roast veg, etc! Extensive selection and she can give you good ideas.
