  • Whilst we fog and routinely maintain a high standard of hygiene, particular attention is still paid to dedicated disinfecting of frequently used surfaces like door knobs, light switches, kettles, ovens, the TV remote, taps, toilet seats and handles, etc.
  • A hand sanatiser is positioned at the entrance for your use.

What Our Guests Are Saying

Perfect house for a lovely weekend away

“Just left Barry House and want to go back! Had such a wonderful weekend here with 10 friends and 3 little kiddies. The house is huge so we all had our own space and it is equipped with anything you may need. Every care was taken by the owners (jugs of water next to the bed, dining room set for dinner, wood in all the fireplaces, etc). Very close to the best wineries and great to braai on the porch, looking at the view of mountains and grazing horses. Highly recommend it for families or a group of friends.”

‘n Plek waarheen jy beslis sal teruggaan

What an amazing find!

“This place is one of a kind, it is the old family home and that is exactly the feel you get when staying there…it’s not just another holiday rental but it has charm and a fantastic atmosphere. There is plenty of space for larger groups, we were only six people but you could easily sleep 12 in the house. There is a large fully equipped kitchen and the entertainment room (with fireplace) is also a great place for after dinner drinks. It was awesome to see the horses playing in the morning, and all the other ‘wild life’ (birds, visiting dogs and cats).”

Frequently Asked Questions

We would like to know more about the housekeeping option?

Our housekeepers have been supplied with PPE made from virucidal and antibacterial silver Nano technologically impregnated fabric so housekeeping is offered as an option.

Should you require housekeeping for a totally relaxing stay please let us know at least 3 days before arrival. We encourage our guests to take the housekeeping option as as our housekeepers know where everything is stored and can save you considerable time. The housekeeper will come in at about 8:45am to service the bedrooms, bathrooms, living areas and the kitchen and on request again at about 4pm if required. Should you require more firewood during your stay she will arrange that for you.

The housekeeper can be paid directly. We recommend about R150 per day as it is a large house, however you are welcome to pay her more should you be happy with the level of service provided.

Kindly note that we live in a low rainfall area. Towels, bath sheets and linen will only be refreshed during long stays and not over a weekend.

What is your cancellation policy?

Our Standard Cancellation policy is as follows:

We offer no-questions-asked refunds to our guests should they cancel more than 60 days before arrival.

Cancellation between 31 and 59 days before stay – 50% of the deposit will be refunded.

Cancellation between 15 and 30 days before stay – 25% of the deposit will be refunded.

No show or cancellation within 14 days of stay. No refund and the full amount will be due.

Cancellation between 31 and 60 days before stay 25% will be refunded.

No show or cancellation within 30 days of stay. No refund and the full amount will be due.

By booking it is understood that you will abide with our cancellation policy.

What do you recommend we bring with us besides our clothes, food and personal toiletries?

Blitz, newspaper and matches (we provide firewood for the braai/BBQ)

Ground filter coffee for the coffee machine or coffee plunger in the kitchen (we provide coffee & tea sachets in all bedrooms except the twin bedroom and at Wine Down Cottage there is a coffee & tea station in the kitchen).

Walking shoes to wander around the farm or running shoes for the energetic.

Swimming towels for a dip in the river if you are staying at Barry House on Riverton or the farm dam at Wine Down Cottage (we provide white bath sheets for indoor use only)

Binoculars and your Roberts or Newman’s birding books or App to enjoy our abundant bird life (there is a Birds of Southern Africa book in the sitting room of Barry House on Riverton)

Fresh carrots should you want to become BFF with our beautiful retired grey stallion Blue Tiger!

Can I bring my dog?

NO DOGS OR CATS ALLOWED PLEASE!

We have 4 highly intelligent German Shepherds that freely patrol the farm. We cannot however guarantee how they will react to another pet on their turf. A city dog may also get kicked by a horse should it go sniffing around a horse paddock.

LOCAL KENNELS

Stella’s Kennels, in Vinkrivier on the Worcester side of Robertson, takes in small breed dogs and cats.

Bonnievale Kennels on the other side of Bonnievale, in Gelukshoop where they breed labbies and retrievers. Tertius and Annelise Carstens take all dogs provided they are human friendly. Beds and food provided. Cell: +27(0)82 901 4044.

One of our guests with large dogs kindly reviewed the Bonnievale Kennels, “The dogs seem to enjoy the kennels and I feel happy to recommend it. It was a very clean and calm dog environment.” Wendy

Can we ride horses on the farm?

No, we breed thoroughbred racehorse athletes for their speed and do not have tame ponies.

However, Robertson Horse Adventures is only four farms away! You can book outrides through the vineyards and along the banks of the Breede River or wine tasting carriage rides with them. Bookings can be made via their website.

For enquiries email:  robertsonhorseadventures@gmail.com or contact Wilke Strydom by phone on +27(0)82 963 8976.

We are a group with several age groups and not everyone enjoys wine. Can you recommend activities that everyone will enjoy?

We can highly recommend doing a 50 minute barge trip up and down a stretch of the Breede River. Viljoensdrift River Cruises are about another 6km further down our road. Costs R90 per adult including an informal wine tasting. They also have a deli where one can select your own picnic to take on board. Over weekends they often have live music on the deck. A lovely outing that all ages will enjoy. Bookings can be made via their website: https://www.viljoensdrift.co.za/river

Our neighbours Bon Courage make some of the best wine in the world. So enjoy a wine tasting and pop into their Café Maude afterwards for a late breakfast or light lunch. They have a jungle gym and play area to keep the children entertained. Our neighbours on the other side are Springfield wine estate – no food but delicious wine and well worth tasting. They have a boat that can be taken out for a paddle on the dam. Bird Paradise has exotic birds and monkeys, lama’s, crocodiles, porcupines, etc and a play area that the kids will enjoy. They also do light meals – toasted sandwiches and teas.

Should you have beer drinkers in your party a visit to the Saggy Stone Pub & Restaurant in the middle of nowhere is well worth the trip and their food is good and reasonably priced. It really is a hidden gem, if a bit of a drive unless you do that on your way back to Cape Town. They are only open Friday to Monday. Bookings are via their website: http://www.saggystone.co.za/

For further ideas and contact details including beekeeping with Farmer Redbeard, tractor rides, skydiving and Olive tasting see our activities page.
